Local Advertising Agency 'Icon' Honored with Silver Medal Award

Joel Morris recognized with AAF-Utah’s highest annual honor

SALT LAKE CITY – The owner of one of Utah’s largest and longest running independent media buying services is the recipient of this year’s Silver Medal Award from the American Advertising Federation of Utah.

Joel Morris, owner of MediaMax, will be honored at the organization’s Silver Medal Luncheon on May 9 at Little America Hotel.

“Being awarded the Silver Medal Award is a huge honor for me,” Morris said. “Looking at the list of past honorees humbles me and makes me proud to be associated with them. The list includes pioneers in the local ad community, many of whom I’ve worked with, worked for or known as professionals in our industry.

“I sincerely appreciate the members of the Utah Advertising Federation and everyone who has helped me along the way and grateful to all for this honor,” Morris said.

Morris, a graduate of the University of Utah, has four decades of experience in the advertising industry. Prior to opening MediaMax in 1993, he served as general sales manager at KSTU-TV. Additionally, he held several positions in television at KUTV for nearly 10 years in sales and sales management.

“Joel is an icon in the Utah advertising industry,” said Tom Love, a partner at Love Communications and longtime Morris colleague and friend. At Morris’ request, Love will emcee the May 9 Silver Medal luncheon. “He challenges himself and those around him to work at the highest levels, and he demands only the best for his clients. And, he’s a really funny guy.”

Throughout his career, Morris has been involved in the industry and broader community. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Advertising Federation and a past President of AAF-Utah.

Morris has also held leadership positions with the following community organizations: Salt Lake Chapter for the Society for the Prevention of Blindness; Salt Lake Acting Company; Pioneer Theatre Company; the Coalition for Eye, Organ and Tissue Transplants; Kurt Oscarson Children’s Organ Transplant Coordinating Committee; and the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
